Your Day to Remember: Different-Colored Eyes Day

As long as we mark time by calendars, we will have something being recognized each day of the year. Here’s your notice of a day to remember this week and how to appropriately honor it. Thanks to National Whatever Day for the bulk of information.

National Different-Colored Eyes Day — July 12

Origin: National Whatever Day didn’t have the holiday’s starting point, but the day celebrates heterochromia, a color differentiation caused by either lack or excess of a pigment called melanin. The color of one’s irises is based on the concentration and distribution of melanin. Complete hetereochromia results in each eye having a different color. Of course, some people go through a rather extreme eye-color change …

Official Song: "Color of Her Eyes" by The Gear Daddies. One of the great songs by one of my all-time favorite bands, who made college parties worth attending.

Appropriate Gift: Colored contact lenses. Here, you can get white mesh, green tornado or “Twilight” lenses, just to really hammer home that Team Edward thing.

Patron Saint: Only one choice here. Finish this strong, Mr. Stardust.
