Your Day to Remember: National Catfish Day

As long as we mark time by calendars, we will have something being recognized each day of the year. Here’s your notice of a day to remember for the upcoming week and how to appropriately honor it. Thanks to National Whatever Day for the help.

This Week’s Day to Remember: National Catfish Day — Tuesday

Origin: President Ronald Reagan issued the proclamation on June 25, 1987. The proclamation came about, according to its text, to celebrate the increase in popularity and economic impact of the farm-raised catfish industry. Good thing this day is coming around, because the industry today, thanks to a senator from the not-so-noted catfish state of Arizona, could use all the good news it can get.

Official Song: The best catfish I’ve ever had was in your classic lonesome, roadhouse-y joint somewhere in North Missouri in the late 1980s. The catfish was in a butter sauce in one of those big cafeteria tins. Nothing fancy, but incredible flavor and texture. I’ve tried to find it again, but no luck. But it was the kind of place where you’d hear this kind of music from Trampled Under Foot, a blues band from Kansas City.

Appropriate Gift: Oh, pretty much everything on this page will do.

Patron Saint: Who else?
